Markings - The art of drawing by A Diverse Dozen

Among the earliest and leading galleries in the city, Chawkandi this time presents the work of twelve internationally acclaimed artists to pay homage to the phenomenal power of drawing.

After their debut shows at the gallery during the 1990s and 2000s these immensely popular and diverse greats of today return to their earliest nurturing ground for a conversation around the less acknowledged medium and field of drawing.

The impressive lineup includes the likes of Meher Afroz, Waseem Ahmed, Khadim Ali, Ali Kazim, Aisha Khalid, Naiza Khan, Afshar Malik, R.M. Naeem, Imran Qureshi, Anwar Saeed, Mohammad Ali Talpur and Muhammad Zeeshan.

Maha Malik who has developed the exhibition, its curatorial premise and catalogue says the work displayed not only helps define and stretch the boundaries of what drawing is but also affirms its stature as a complete medium in the contemporary art practice.

The show offers a small window into Pakistan's gallery history as well according to the first time curator.

The youngest participant of the show, Muhammad Zeeshan says by exploring and highlighting the beauty of very basics of all art this show emphasizes the stature of drawing as a medium of expression in its own right.

MARKINGS – A Premier Show of Contemporary Drawing will continue till November 20th.
