With layers and layers of thermocol balls covering the entire gallery floor as installation the latest works by Karachi based visual artist Imrana Tanveer are about the dreams, desires and aspirations of this world and afterlife.
Currently on display at Sanat gallery, Karachi the multi-faceted sensory series titled 'Heaven was the place in heart' also incorporates Tanveer's experience of textiles and weaving who holds a degree from National College of Arts, Lahore.
Since her first solo show in 2013, layered socio-political commentary has been a recurring element in her work displayed locally and abroad. Heaven or earth the notions of beauty and the subsequent objectification of women in the context of this world and beyond is at the core of her new work. The beautiful looking distorted visuals or the faceless human figures in the shredded prints woven with traditional thread of golden zari for this reason are deliberately chosen from the iconic paintings of beautiful women of the western art according to the artist.
Comprising of a set of over seventy works and experiential installation, the show will continue till November 24th.
