Art in the digital world

KARACHI: The innovative works of two emerging artists being displayed at the Indus Valley School in Karachi merge the disciplines of art and technology, including animated miniature, video works, sculpture installations and more.

Both graduates of Lahore's prestigious National College of Arts, Arsalan Farooqui and Ehsan Memon have manipulated their chosen medium with a digital and unconventional twist.

Trained in miniature, Farooqui has given life to the age-old stillness of the tradition by animating famous imagery and paintings from the Mughal era. Using tools from Adobe Creative Suite, he says the miniature animations created are educational in nature.

With most of his imagery revolving around roti (bread) – be it oil-on-canvas, fibre-glass sculptures, video, or installation work – Ehasan Memon's ideas and concerns are all to do with the very basic human need  of food.

Called 'The Absolute Truth', this two-person show by IVS Galllery will continue till September 21.
