Students win awards at short films festival in Karachi

KARACHI: The Fourth Short Film Festival 2016 by Iqra University was held at a local cinema on Thursday, December 15, where eight short films were screened.

The festival was attended by professionals affiliated with the Pakistani film industry, who praised the efforts of the students.

The event takes place every year, where hundreds of students join hands to make ambitious short films filling in ranks as writers, directors, producers, designers, art directors, editors, sound designers and graphic artists.

Head of Media Sciences Department at Iqra University, Tehmina Lodhi thanked Geo.TV for encouraging the students participating in the festival.

Around 500 students participated in the Fourth Short Film Festival 2016.

Winners:

Best Film and Best Direction: Jhol

Director : Ammar Chishti

Producer : Sheikh Taha Rehman, Hassan Ali

The movie, which showcases three parallel stories, tries to portray that someone's sadness can be another person's happiness.

Best Editing and Best Cinematography: Haram Chor

Director : Mudassir Majeed

Producer : M. Babar Khan

The movie depicts two parallel stories: Haram, a guy who does things that he is not supposed to do and Chor, a thief.

Best Art Direction: Saabir

Director : Amjad Ali Khan

Producer : Hassan Attari

This story is based on a real-life incident. A family-- a husband (Saabir), wife (Komal) and their son (Ahmed)) were living a happy life but little did they know that their lives would change forever.

Best Titles and Credits: Main Kaun Hoon

Director : Faizan Shoro

Producer : Daniyal Anees

The story of Main Kaun Hoon revolves around a married woman in Pakistan and how she can't seem to protect herself from the prying eyes of men in this society.
