Spider-Man: Homecoming's first trailer turned quite some heads when it was released on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night. It was so good that it may have managed to upturn the audience's generally-bored mood the reboot's announcement initially caused.
See it here:
Holland turned up at the show to promote his new movie as well. He was dressed as Spiderman, along with a 100 others who had donned the costume too.
The latest remake features Tom Holland as Spiderman, while Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as Tony Stark (Iron Man); the two were previously seen together in Captain America: Civil War. Through his cameo in the Marvel flick, Holland was able to charm the web-tossing superhero's fans, and reignited their interest in the movies.
Bringing the mechanical-winged-suit-clad Vulture to the screen is Michael Keaton, who exudes intimidation and fear in Parker. Our hero is concerned about his training, Avengers status (or lack thereof), and facing the supervillain – worries that Stark brushes off by saying that they will taken care of later, and by trained people.
The film seems to be an amalgamation of a coming-of-age storyline and traditional superhero-villain standoff. Parker is still in high school, dealing with teenage problems, such as being called a loser, confusion in approaching his crush, shouldering responsibility, and trying to stay up-to-date with coursework all at once.
However, hiding his identity is an issue for Parker, though his best friend still finds out when the former creeps up on a bedroom roof. Alongside, Stark is also keeping a close eye on the insecurity-laden Spidey, but guides him with advice on life and how to stay out of trouble.
As seen in the trailer, Iron Man gifts Parker a new costume, which sports dilating eyes and unusual webbed-limbs-like wings under the arms, allowing him to fly for longer. In this regard, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that fans will "begin to see just how much Tony Stark loves bells and whistles," Movieweb reported earlier today.
Funnily enough, Iron Man cautions, "Just… don't do anything I would do. And definitely don't do anything I wouldn't do. There's a little grey area that in there, and that's where you operate." The trailer slightly touches on Stark's hesitance to openly display his emotions.
Interestingly, the international trailer gives a brief glimpse of the Shocker, who will be a secondary villain. Bokeem Woodbine is allegedly the man behind the mask.
Holland surely brings a fresh perspective to the character with his sharp voice, and age-appropriate tomfoolery. It is also a major plus that comic-book guru Stan Lee opined that Holland is "good to me. I can't see anything wrong with him."
The soundtrack played in the trailer is MGMT's Time to Pretend.
The Jon Watts-directed Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated for release on July 7, 2017. Given the hiccups in the franchise overall, with lead actor replaced every two movies, this one seems to be promising. Let's keep our hearts open to see how the film pans out.
