We have seen numerous replications of the uber-famous slow-mo, bullet-dodging scene technique from The Matrix. However, Warner Bros. believes it's time to give it another go, as a remake is under discussions.
Sources revealed to entertainment news website The Hollywood Reporter that the studio behind the revolutionary 1999 sci-fi flick is mulling over a remake to help boost the stagnating revenue streams.
While a lot of work is required before the project is publically confirmed, it is being said that Michael "MJ" Jordan may be part of the re-launch.
Interestingly, Joel Silver purportedly approached the studio, despite having sold his rights to the franchise earlier, but the latter apparently doesn't extend him favour due to his issues with the Wachowski siblings as well as his budgetary problems.
As for Keanu Reeves, he wants the Wachowskis "to write it and direct it," Yahoo Movies UK reported on February 17. He added that "we'd [then] see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that'd be weird, but why not?"
It makes sense too, as the two Wachowskis are more valuable to and popular with The Matrix lovers.
However, the Wachowski duo – that served as the writers and directors of the three-movie franchise – is currently engaged in the highly popular drama series Sense8, and no news related to their potential involvement in the reboot has surfaced.
On the other hand, Zak Penn, a name associated with big titles, such as X-Men: The Last Stand and The Avengers, is reportedly in consultation as well.
Let's see where the finger of Warner Bros. lands for the film franchise.
As Reeves said in the interview, "People die, stories don't!"
