IN PICTURES: Car-Nival 2017 delights automobile enthusiasts with vintage beauties

KARACHI: The appeal of vintage cars has always drawn Karachiites out from the comfort of their homes, even if it's a Sunday and this weekend was no different.

Hundreds of automobile aficionados turned up at the city's famed Frere Hall for the two-day Karachi Car-Nival 2017 — organised by Motorheads Pakistan and Bullseye Communications — to see their favourite Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Cadillac, Porsche and other four-wheel beauties.

Asked if the event has changed from its previous iteration eight months ago, Ahsan Mohsin Ikram — the chief executive at Motorheads Pakistan and part of the Vintage and Classic Cars Club of Pakistan (VCCCP) — told Geo.tv that it is different in the sense that "this time, we are hosting the show for two days, so that we can utilize the whole weekend".

"Car enthusiasts who come to check out the old cars also love the new ones," Ikram said.

"Our goal is to bring to people a fun-filled, family-friendly event that will make them happy.

In a press release issued earlier, Ikram had said, "Motorbikes from leading manufacturers, including Harley Davidsons, Suzuki Hayabusas, BMWs, Motorguzzi, Ducatti and Triumphs, among others, will enthral [the visitors]."

"The visitors will get to see jaw-dropping cars such as Ferraris, Bentleys, Aston Martins, Jaguars and Rolls Royces to name a few."

We also asked Ikram to tell us about the vehicles put on display, as, on the first day, we only saw luxury cars.

The organizers have not included "all cars", he explained, adding that vehicles, which are special in the sense that "only two to three people own one throughout Pakistan", are being exhibited.

"We have focused on quality over quantity" this time, he noted, saying that the event — which has been held biannually for the past 15 years — wishes to improve its experience over time as it grows in popularity.

There were 60-65 cars on the first day, Ikram said. However, the number was smaller than he had expected.

"Only the individual owners of classic cars were invited," he stated, stressing that no companies were called since it was an exhibition and not a commercial event.

"The VCCCP has also brought a French sports car from 1942," he told us, making sure that we would check them out during our visit.

"The 1944 Rolls-Royce that Quaid-e-Azam rode alongside Lord Mountbatten is also here."
