Pakistani-American stand-up comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani definitely has a bright future in Hollywood as his debut film The Big Sick has clinched an award at the 2017 Hollywood Film Awards

The film, based on Nanjiani's story, won the Hollywood Comedy Ensemble Award at a star-studded ceremony held The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, on November 5.

The Big Sick is a drama-romance which chronicles his real-life romance with wife Emily Gordon. The cast included Kumail as himself, Zoe Kazan as his girlfriend Emily while Holly Hunter and Ray Romano played Emily's parents.

Kumail being Kumail accepted the award with a light-hearted, humourous speech all the while thanking the film's creators for bringing his life story to the cinema.

"We have a lot of people to thank but I truly, truly want to thank our cast. [The Big Sick] was a really intimate, personal story and I was nervous about the people joining but I would not go on this journey with anybody but you. You all poured yourself into this thing and gave a piece of yourself to this movie and it is a gift my wife and I will cherish forever."

Other winners include Kate Winslet who won the Hollywood Actress Awar winner while Jake Gyllenhaal won the Hollywood Actor Award. The dystopian hit Blade Runner 2049 won the producer award.
