The mad word scientist George R. R. Martin, who has penned A Song of Ice and Fire – the inspiration behind crazily loved TV series Game of Thrones, is likely to close a deal with HBO for a new series.
This gives fans of the medieval TV show a new reason to celebrate, given that Game of Thrones' latest season is set to premiere in July this year. Martin, often called GRRM, revealed on his Livejournal account that he is "close to signing a new deal with HBO, and as part of that we will be able to free up Captain Cosmos."

Captain Cosmos is a TV show – written by GRRM in collaboration with producer and screenwriter Michael Cassutt – that was first pitched to HBO. However, the network decided to pass it, so the new deal will likely let the latter offer it to other channels.
This means that while the author will probably be signing the deal with HBO, another project he co-developed with Cassutt may also see the light of the day, sometime in future. Martin added that he is comfortable with the idea of parting with Captain Cosmos since he is exclusively associated with HBO. In addition, he teased, "I have lots of other stuff in development at HBO."
On another note, HBO is working on a Game of Thrones spinoff, which is also set in the same locality – Westeros. While GRRM has mentioned his pleasure at creating new, GoT-related series, his involvement in this one is unclear. To note, his Dunk & Egg novellas are stories based on the great-grandfather of Daenerys Targaryen.
Sounds like a lot is under the wraps!
