Pakistani filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, is all set to represent Pakistan in the eight annual Women in the World summit.
Sharmeen will be attending the event for the fourth time, which will be held at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.
The two-time Academy Award winning filmmaker will speak at a session titled, 'Pakistan's Honour', where NBC's senior correspondent Cynthia McFadden will interview her. The session will be held at 9am on April 6.
The filmmaker will speak about how she has helped change social norms by bringing to the forefront stories of strong Pakistani women.
Speaking about her session, she said, "I am bringing stories of women who are fighting back to the stage in New York. From women in the police force, to women legislators and activists! It's important to talk about those women who are risking their lives for others!"
She added, "My urgent call to action is that women can no longer wait for a seat to open up on the decision-making table. They need to empower themselves."
The filmmaker has played an active role in raising voice against honour killing in the country. Her award-winning documentary, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, focused on the journey of a woman who was attacked in the name of honour.
Other notable speakers participating in the event include Hillary Clinton, Scarlett Johansson, Chimamanda Ngozi Adicide, Justin Trudeau among others.
